Ultimate bbq rib sauce

I recently went to a restaurant that sold the most amazing ribs, since then I have been searching for the perfect recipe to recreate at home. On my quest for the perfect bbq glaze and spice rub I ended up taking inspiration from many different sources and sauces. I wanted to find the perfect combination of sweet and sticky with a hint of sour and a  little kick of chilli heat…….for once I refrain from overdosing on the chilli……..well ok maybe I’ll add a little bit more for good measure.

This bbq sauce is designed to enhance the flavor of the ribs and give the satisfaction that only licking left over sauce from your fingers can give. So if you’re looking for the ultimate taste sensation and to impress you friends at your next bbq just follow the recipe below for the ultimate bbq rib sauce. ‘Warning‘ may become addictive.

 

The Ultimate bbq sauce

 

1 Cup Brown sugar ( dark brown gives a beautiful caramel flavour)

1/2 Cup Sweet chilli sauce

1/2 Cup Spiced Rum

1/4 Cup Soy sauce

1/4 Cup Ketchup

1/4 Cup Worcestershire sauce

3 Garlic cloves, crushed

1/2 Teaspoon Dry mustard powder

1-2 finely chopped red chillies, inc seeds (optional, depending on taste)

Black pepper to taste

 

Once you have all your ingredients prepared it is incredibly easy to make. Simply mix the brown sugar, chilli sauce, rum, soy sauce, kelchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, mustard powder, chillies and black pepper in a saucepan over a low heat. Simmer for 30 minutes until all ingredients have combined and reduced to a dark sticky consistency. Allow it to cool then it’s ready for use.

You can refrigerate the sauce until you need it or seal it in jars and keep for those special occasions. I find that mine doesn’t normally last more than a day, whether using it as a dipping sauce or for the ultimate bbq ribs. Use it along side my double spicy spice rub for perfect results every time.
